the housing shortage

During the year of 2018 it was estimated that around 45 000 students were in need of a new residence. However, only 10% of those students were accepted to a university in a city with a stable housing market. This also meant that 90% of students weren't able to fully focus on their studies and had to worry about finding a new home.

Furthermore, there is now a shortage of affordable apartments in Malmö, and Lund has been red-listed, which means that the housing shortage is extra severe. This leads to students from foreign countries or northern cities having to find residence in cities far from their university.

Additionally, the waiting line for a dormitory room in Lund is 6-12 months and for an apartment it is 12-24 months. The situation in Malmö is also critical during autumn as it is very difficult to obtain any kind of accommodation.
